Job Summary

  • Under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, the Patient Care Technician I (PCT I) provides basic, supportive patient care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards
  • Duties include assistance with daily living activities, vital signs collection, documentation, and safe transport, helping to ensure a safe and compassionate environment for patients

Essential Functions

  • Provide personal care assistance including bathing, grooming, and hygiene
  • Take and record vital signs and patient measurements
  • Assist with nutrition and feeding tasks
  • Perform Point of Care Testing (e.g., Accu-Checks)
  • Support safe ambulation, turning, positioning, and transport
  • Report changes in patient condition to licensed staff
  • Document intake/output and care activities
  • Answer call lights promptly and professionally
  • Participate in purposeful rounding and team communication
  • Support admissions, discharges, and general comfort needs

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Must read, write and speak fluent English
  • Must have good and regular attendance
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Able to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities and function under stressful situations
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Licenses/Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred or required within time frame specified in facility policy

Experience

  • Healthcare experience preferred
