Job Summary

Patient Care Technician III (PCT III) serves as a highly skilled support role, providing patient care across multiple units (Float Pool). PCT III possesses specialized clinical competencies including phlebotomy, EKGs, telemetry monitoring, orthopedic splinting, and sterile technique. This role supports the nursing team with broader patient needs and greater independence.

Essential Functions

  • All duties of PCT I and II, plus
  • Competency in Telemetry monitoring, EKGs, and phlebotomy
  • Application of orthopedic splints and collection of nasal swabs
  • Collection of newborn specimens and performance of hearing screenings
  • Sterile field preparation and documentation
  • Orientation support and training of new staff (non-delegated tasks)
  • Flexibility to float between departments and adapt to varying care environments

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Must read, write and speak fluent English.  
  • Must have good and regular attendance.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Able to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities and function under stressful situations.  
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.  
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a healthcare certification or nursing program semester strongly preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • BLS required within time frame specified in facility policy.

Experience

  • One-year recent healthcare experience required
