SUMMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Associate Administrator and the Laboratory Medical Director, coordinates and manages day-to-day operations of the laboratory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides expertise in laboratory medicine processes through competent management, effective communication, collaboration, and timely action
  • Oversees STAT and routine testing in the laboratory
  • Oversees and manages all laboratory processes related to vendors, including send-out tests, reference labs, maintenance of supplies and equipment, and contracts
  • Assigns and reviews proficiency testing, rotating samples among staff as required by regulations
  • Coordinates scheduling and oversees daily laboratory operations
  • Assures quality of service in the laboratory by reviewing results, Quality Control (QC) data, maintenance functions, and data collection, taking corrective action as needed
  • Attends meetings as requested by the Executive team or Associate Administrator
  • Tends to all laboratory functions and reports to next-in-line Leader
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with lab Medical Director, other providers and other departments
  • Ensures Laboratory Information System (LIS) maintenance
  • Provides effective leadership to the assigned department(s) of responsibility
  • Ensures that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Ohio
  • Ensures staff compliances with hospital/unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines
  • Participates in activities that ensure the competency of the staff
  • Ensures proper staffing for the department(s) of responsibility
  • Maintains accountability for fiscal management of the department(s)
  • Demonstrates good management techniques in established lines of authority
  • Demonstrates ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations
  • Demonstrates maturity and accountability for job performance. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of  the Department(s) and organization. Assesses areas of personal and professional growth
  • Supports and promotes excellence in customer/guest relations, patient experience
  • Supports and promotes the organization’s Quality, Infection Control Program, Safety Program, and Risk Management Program
  • Ensures 90% compliance on hand hygiene audits
  • Understands and adheres to all regulatory and compliance standards

Qualifications

Education: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in physical, chemical, or biological sciences

Certification: 

  • Current Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification by American Society Clinical 
    Pathology (ASCP)

Experience: 

  • 1 year of MT/MLS experience
  • 5 years of laboratory experience with 2 years supervisory experience
