Certified Sterile Processing Technician

Under the general supervision of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Supervisor, performs a variety of duties within the Surgical Services Department to include but not limited to receiving, decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, sterilizing of surgical instruments, deliver processed instrumentations to external units within the hospital and working rotational weekends pulling SPD call technicians duties.

• Equivalent to four (4) years of high school
• Successful completion SPD Technician course preferred
• Certification not required but must obtain within one (1) year of hire date.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

1.Possess basic computer knowledge and skills (Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint).

2.Effectively communicates at all levels of internal and external customers.

3.Able to multitask with losing efficiency and quality of work

4.Must be able to critically think in situations where speed and sustained attention are important.

     5.      Complete daily/weekly tests on departmental equipment (i.e. washers, sterilizers sonic cleaner)

6.Initiate Biomed or Facilities work orders when needed

7.Assist in maintaining records for sterilizer loads and equipment tests

8.Identify broken/malfunctioning instruments

9.Use FIFO principle to store processed surgical instrumentations in designated areas.

10.Follow manufacturer recommendations when operating SPD equipment 

11.  Perform other related duties as needed.

12.Restocks par level of decontamination protective supplies (gloves, masks with face shield, gowns)

13.Restocks par level of decontamination cleaning solutions (detergents, enzymatic cleaner, lubricant)

14.Completes applicable checks and maintenance of sterilizers, washers and ultrasonic cleaner.
