Job Summary

The Radiology Tech Assistant supports the daily operations of the imaging department by assisting technologists and clinical staff with patient preparation, transport, and equipment setup. This role ensures the imaging environment remains clean, stocked, and patient-ready while maintaining safety and compliance standards. The Tech Assistant contributes to a smooth workflow by performing clerical tasks and providing compassionate support to patients throughout their diagnostic imaging experience. 

Essential Functions

  • Assists patients in preparation for imaging procedures, including gowning and positioning under supervision. 
  • Transports patients to and from imaging areas using appropriate safety techniques and equipment. 
  • Prepares exam rooms with necessary supplies and ensures cleanliness between procedures. 
  • Stocks linen and exam rooms, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies. 
  • Cleans and maintains imaging equipment and patient care areas in accordance with infection control guidelines. 
  • Communicates with patients and staff to provide updates and ensure comfort during wait times. 
  • Assists with clerical tasks such as patient check-in, data entry, and film or image management. 
  • Supports technologists and radiologists by anticipating needs during procedures. 
  • Adheres to all hospital and regulatory policies for safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and patient care standards 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse populations 
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 
  • Physically able to lift and transport patients and equipment 
  • Maintains professionalism in high-stress or sensitive patient care situations 
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting (up to 50 pounds) 
  • Ability to push/pull stretchers or wheelchairs 
  • Hospital or imaging center setting 
  • Exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and medical equipment 
  • May involve handling of patients under moderate supervision 

Qualifications

Education 

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required) 

Licenses/Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Required within 3 months of hire) 

Experience

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or imaging environment (Preferred)
