Job Summary

  • Assists respiratory therapists with preparing for and providing patient care

Essential Functions

  • Delivers routine therapy as delegated by a therapist
  • Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance
  • Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition
  • Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources
  • Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders
  • Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment
  • Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care
  • Skills in applying and modifying respiratory care principals, methods and techniques to provide optimal patient care
  • Performs independently with the ability to identify problems and recommend solutions to optimize patient care
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional relationships with patients, peers, medical staff, and the public
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and observes HIPPA regulations
  • Attends mandatory in services and related continuing education classes
  • Treats all customers including patients, families, physicians, coworkers, managers, and outside contacts, with courtesy, dignity, respect and professionalism
  • Performs other functions as requested
  • Takes standby call as needed to cover patient load

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Ability to work under stress and to respond quickly in emergency situations
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills when working or interacting with residents, their families and other staff members
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively through verbal and written means to extent necessary to perform job duties appropriately
  • Understands principles of growth and development for the entire lifespan with the ability to provide care appropriate for the patient population
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Reading and comprehension at level necessary to perform job duties appropriately
  • Must have good and regular attendance
  • Approximate percent of time required to travel: 0%
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • Technical or trade education as required for accreditation as a respiratory tech

Licenses/Certifications

  • Appropriate state licensure as required by state of practice
  • Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRRT) preferred

Experience

  • Patient care experience preferred
