Job Summary

The Plant Operations I Laborer/Helper provides essential support to the facilities team by assisting with routine tasks that contribute to the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the hospital environment. This entry-level position supports the maintenance staff through basic manual labor, equipment movement, and workspace upkeep. The role requires reliability, physical stamina, and a commitment to workplace safety.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in moving furniture, equipment, and supplies as directed
  • Performs general cleaning and upkeep of maintenance and storage areas
  • Delivers tools, materials, and parts to support maintenance and repair teams
  • Clears work areas of debris and returns tools and equipment to designated storage
  • Provides support for groundskeeping, snow removal, or light exterior maintenance
  • Responds to basic requests for transport or set-up of facility items
  • Follows safety procedures and wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Reports unsafe conditions, spills, or hazards to supervisor promptly

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and dependability
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety and proper handling of equipment
  • Good physical condition to perform sustained manual labor
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying items up to 50 lbs
  • Occasional pushing/pulling of carts or equipment
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and varying indoor/outdoor temperatures
  • Must be able to use hand tools and basic equipment under supervision
  • Participates in team safety meetings and department updates
  • Demonstrates respect for patients, staff, and visitors through courteous behavior
  • Adheres to organizational policies for attendance, conduct, and safety

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)

  • None required

Experience

  • No previous experience required; on-the-job training provided
