Job Summary

  • The Service Worker – EVS Surgery is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-stocked surgical environment, including operating rooms, PACU, and support areas
  • This position supports infection control standards through thorough cleaning, transport of patients and supplies, and assistance with environmental services
  • The role may also provide support for procedures beyond normal operating hours through on-call assignments depending on facility requirements

Essential Functions

  • Cleans and disinfects surgical suites, PACU, and related areas per hospital and infection control protocols
  • Transports patients safely to and from the OR and PACU following established procedures
  • Stocks surgical supplies and manages medical gas cylinder inventory
  • Assists with environmental setup and turnover between surgical cases
  • Responds promptly to urgent cleaning or transport needs during procedures
  • Maintains compliance with hospital policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards
  • Participates in department meetings, mandatory education, and training requirements
  • Participates in on-call rotation to support after-hours surgical procedures
  • Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by task or exposure risk

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work with minimal supervision
  • Understanding of infection prevention standards and universal precautions
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move carts, beds, or patients
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
  • Must be able to work in environments with exposure to blood, body fluids, chemicals, and surgical waste
  • Demonstrates professionalism, attention to detail, and dependability

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Licenses/Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required by timeframe specified in facility policy

Experience

  • Previous environmental services experience preferred
  • Prior experience in a healthcare or surgical setting preferred
