Job Summary

Operates as a hospital courier/driver responsible for the safe transportation of patients and/or designated items. Provides excellent customer service, assists passengers as needed, and ensures the vehicle is maintained in safe working condition.

Essential Functions

  • Safely transports patients and/or items to and from designated destinations using a hospital-provided vehicle.
  • Assists patients with entering and exiting the vehicle, including transfers from or to wheelchairs or stretchers.
  • Greets and provides directions or information to patients and visitors.
  • Conducts regular vehicle inspections to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Maintains documentation of transportation activities as required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Ability to assist passengers with mobility needs.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and routes.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate under varying environmental and weather conditions.
  • Capability to lift/push/pull objects or individuals weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and walking.
  • Occasional squatting, climbing, and sitting.
  • Frequent exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
  • Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and occasional chemical hazards such as cytotoxic materials or dust.
  • Driving in various weather and traffic conditions.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license required.
  • Handle with Care' or CPI certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience

  • Experience transporting patrons, clients, or patients preferred.
