Job Summary

The Ultrasound Tech Student assists with a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations under the direct supervision of an Ultrasound Technologist. The Ultrasound Tech Student adheres to radiation safety protocols and interfaces with patients in an acute care hospital setting.

Essential Functions

Follows all accreditation requirements for non-credentialed ultrasound technologists in accordance with the American College of Radiology (ACR), including but not limited to non-credentialed technologists may not be used at an accredited facility for more than 2 consecutive weeks or a total of 3 weeks per calendar year.

Perform ultrasound imaging procedures in accordance with established protocols, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Prepare and position patients for ultrasound procedures, ensuring optimal imaging and diagnostic accuracy.

Operate ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality diagnostic images for physician interpretation.

Document patient history, imaging procedures, and observations in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Maintain equipment, including cleaning, calibrating, and reporting equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.

Assist radiologists and physicians during invasive ultrasound-guided procedures, such as biopsies and aspirations.

Monitor and assess patients for adverse reactions to procedures or contrast media and respond appropriately.

Participate in quality control initiatives to maintain accreditation and regulatory compliance.

Educate patients and family members regarding imaging procedures and provide compassionate patient care.

Maintain a safe and organized work environment in accordance with infection control policies.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and ultrasound imaging protocols.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and teamwork.

Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and related diagnostic software.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in imaging and documentation.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning and maintaining ARDMS certification


Qualifications

Education

Current Enrollment as a second-year student in an ultrasound accredited program of sonography (Required)

Licenses/Certifications

Other: Passed Sonographic Physics Instrumentation (SPI) exam through ARDMS Upon Hire Or

Other: ARRT eligible through post primary pathway Upon Hire

Experience

1+ years healthcare experience (Preferred)
