Job Summary

The Non-Certified Radiology Technician (NCT) performs limited diagnostic radiographic procedures under the supervision of a licensed practitioner and in accordance with Texas state regulations and facility policies. This role supports patient care through the safe operation of radiographic equipment, patient positioning, image acquisition, and adherence to radiation safety and infection prevention standards. The NCT role is limited to duties permitted under Texas law and does not perform advanced imaging procedures or functions requiring ARRT certification or advanced licensure.

Essential Functions

  • Performs limited-scope radiographic examinations as permitted under Texas regulations and facility protocols.
  • Positions patients appropriately to obtain quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Operates radiographic imaging equipment safely and effectively.
  • Verifies patient identity and explains imaging procedures to patients and families.
  • Maintains accurate patient records and exam documentation in the electronic medical record and/or radiology systems.
  • Adheres to radiation safety principles including ALARA standards and proper shielding techniques.
  • Observes patients during procedures and reports concerns or changes in patient condition to licensed clinical personnel.
  • Cleans and maintains imaging equipment and exam rooms according to infection prevention standards.
  • Assists with patient transport and workflow coordination as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and organizational regulations and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within scope of role and state regulations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Basic knowledge of radiographic positioning and imaging procedures.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and infection prevention practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and patient safety awareness.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to work under supervision and follow established protocols.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role (Preferred)
  • Other: Completion of a Texas-recognized radiologic training program or on-the-job radiographic training (Preferred)

Licenses/Certifications

  • Other: Must meet applicable Texas state requirements for performing limited radiographic procedures Upon Hire (Required)
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or within facility-specified time frame (Required)
  • ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists not required for this role

Experience

  • Prior Experience in healthcare, imaging, medical assistant, or patient care experience (Preferred)
  • Prior Experience operating radiographic equipment (Preferred)
