Description

Summary:

Assist Unit Director with management and coordination of patient care and staff development.  Provides direct care to patients on assigned unit using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.  Functions and performs all technical aspects of nursing care within the framework of established policies and procedures of CPRMC.  Responsible for managing care of assigned patients and guiding and directing the activities of ancillary staff.  May function as a charge nurse.  Functions on the nursing unit as assistant to the physician.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates staff scheduling, educational/development activities, disciplinary actions and performance evaluations.
  • Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of clinical services.

  • Performs quality assurance studies and assists in implementation of quality initiatives.

  • Serves as a resource to staff and external contacts on issues related to patient care, patient flow, clinical standards, and policies & procedures.

  • Monitors departmental compliance with applicable requirements, including accreditation, legal and joint commission.

  • Leads the handling and resolutions of complex issues and complaints.

  • Performs staff responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels.

  • Make assignments based on the acuity and workloadBe mindful of procedures, tests that require travel to other departments, potential discharges & transfers.

  • Communicate throughout shift with department managers and/or nursing supervisor.

  • Coordinator with the nursing supervisor to make staffing decisions for the unit.

  • Hold staff accountable for assignments/work performance, report issues/concerns to director.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Current State license or Compact State License (if lives outside of SC)required

Education:

  • ADN degree or higher in nursing required.BSN, preferred.
  • BLS – required upon hire and continuously thereafter.
  • ACLS – required within 6 months of hire and continuously thereafter.
  • CPI – required within 6 months of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Certified Professional of Patient Safety (CPPS), preferred.
  • Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse RNC or RN-BC, required within 1 year of hire.

Experience:

  • 2-4 years nursing experience preferred.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing and to conduct self in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to guide and direct activities and staff to provide optimal patient care
  • Utilizes the nursing process as a framework for patient care while recognizing the dignity and worth of each patient
  • Collaborates with other health care members to maintain a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
