Palestine Regional Medical Center (PRMC) provides two facilities: PRMC Hospital and PRMC's West Campus, including behavioral health. For over 60 years, the citizens of Anderson and surrounding counties have depended on the healthcare facilities in Palestine. Serving approximately 100,000 people, PRMC provides 150 beds with a highly skilled staff of healthcare professionals. A full range of comprehensive care is offered, including the latest in diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative services, both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Job Summary

Performs routine laboratory testing/analysis for diagnostic purposes, under the direct supervision of a medical technologist.

Essential Functions

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through application of positive language principles, appropriate response and use of constructive problem-solving techniques which foster positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of expected lab results for the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
  • Performs clerical, general, and phlebotomy duties related to daily operations in the laboratory.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment correctly and safely, including calibration of instruments.
  • Responsible for adequately stocked and organized inventory of reagents and supplies in the laboratory.  Reports needed supplies to Director.
  • Performs maintenance on laboratory equipment, per manufactures required timeframes, as is consistent with all standard laboratory protocols across the industry.
  • Maintains accurate and continued documentation. Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Applies principles of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
  • Assists in orientation and training of new staff/students as necessary.
  • Performs other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within scope of practice.

  • Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work.

  • Able to respond to and cope with emergency situations professionally and calmly.
  • Focused, patient and calm, while performing well under pressure, in a stressful environment, and able to take appropriate action.
  • Must be flexible, responding to changes in work schedule, able to work as needed for appropriate departmental coverage.
  • Must possess knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of word processing, email, electronic medical records, laboratory information systems and other similar software as required.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.

Qualifications

Education 

  • High school diploma or equivalent Required
  • Medical Lab Technician (MLT) ASCP-certified, or equivalent, preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Medical Lab Technician (MLT) ASCP-certified, or equivalent, preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of twelve months’ experience in a medical surgical inpatient setting (hospital), within the last thirty-six months, preferred.
