Job Summary
The Team Lead – ER Registration oversees daily activities of emergency department registration staff, ensuring timely and accurate collection of demographic, clinical, and financial information. This role provides guidance, training, and support to registration staff while maintaining a strong focus on quality, compliance, and customer service. The Team Lead also serves as a liaison between registration staff, clinical teams, and leadership and assists with performance evaluations, onboarding, and adherence to regulatory and organizational policies.
Essential Functions
Monitors daily operations and workflow of the ER Registration team.
Verifies insurance benefits and collects required payments, including co-pays and deductibles.
Refers patients to financial counselors as needed.
Provides orientation, coaching, and mentoring to new and existing staff.
Supports performance evaluations and monitors quality assurance metrics and upfront collections.
Ensures accurate entry of demographic and billing information into the registration system.
Explains registration documents and processes to patients and caregivers.
Collaborates with nursing and clinical teams for effective communication and patient transfers.
Participates in on-call responsibilities at least one weekend per month.
Promotes excellent customer service and patient experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance rules and regulations.
Familiarity with medical terminology.
Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
Proficient in electronic registration and insurance verification systems.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Flexible to work rotating shifts as needed.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent, including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role (required)
Licenses/Certifications

Experience
Prior registration and supervisory experience in a hospital or physician office setting (required)
Prior experience demonstrating strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance rules and regulations (required)
Prior experience demonstrating familiarity with medical terminology (preferred)
