Description

The Director of Pharmacy directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives. Provides leadership and direction for the overall clinical and administrative activities of Pharmacy. Assures the Pharmacy Department maintains accreditation with regulatory agencies, including but not limited to the Joint Commission. Oversees the assignment, coordination and supervision of the staff in accomplishing departmental and organizational activities. The Director assists in developing and implementing measurable goals and ensures quality work performance and adherence to established Hospital standards and policy. Maintains a close working relationship within Patient Services to coordinate delivery of services.  

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
  • Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in Scientific Field, i.e., Pharmacy from accredited College of Pharmacy, or equivalent required. 
  • Licenses: Registered Pharmacist in the State of Texas. 
  • Minimum of five years progressive work experience in a hospital pharmacy with at least three years in a supervisory position.
  • Computer systems experience is essential.
