Palestine Regional Medical Center (PRMC) provides two facilities: PRMC Hospital and PRMC's West Campus, including behavioral health. For over 60 years, the citizens of Anderson and surrounding counties have depended on the healthcare facilities in Palestine. Serving approximately 100,000 people, PRMC provides 150 beds with a highly skilled staff of healthcare professionals. Description

Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments. Anticipates the need for supplies. Selects equipment and supplies in a timely manner. Assures all equipment is functioning properly prior to procedure if possible. Able to operate equipment correctly. Uses supplies in a cost -effective manner. Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients. Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory. Follows principles of aseptic technique. Initiates proper action when technique is broken.  Inspects sterile items for contamination before opening. Maintains sterility of field. Performs sponge, sharp, and instrument counts. Follows established policies and procedures for counts. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.


Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent - Required

Graduate of accredited school of surgical technology is preferred; trained surgical tech; i.e through a hospital program is required.

Certification - required.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

BCLS required - within 30 days of hire

Minimum 1 year sterile and scrub tech experience - required
