Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health Services, the Barber provides grooming services to patients in the Psychiatric Restoration Unit to support dignity and well-being. This role aims to enhance patient appearance, teach principles of personal grooming, and promote hygiene in a safe and therapeutic environment.

Essential Functions

  • Provide basic grooming services including conventional haircuts and trims using cordless trimmers.
  • Perform beard trims when scheduled in advance and time allows.
  • Maintain equipment in clean, safe, and operable condition report maintenance needs to designated staff.
  • Follow infection control and sanitation protocols to ensure a hygienic work environment.
  • Work under supervision with a Behavioral Health staff member present at all times.
  • Use clean and sterilized tools and ensure patients are appropriately prepared for services.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and track all tools and equipment used during services.
  • Adhere to institutional policies related to patient interaction and safety.

  • Ability to provide grooming services with professionalism and respect for patient dignity.
  • Demonstrated understanding of infection control and hygiene practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and responsive in high-stress or unpredictable environments.
  • Good judgment, critical thinking, and independence in task management.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role. (Preferred)

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Barber in the state of practice Upon Hire (Required)

Experience

  • Prior Experience providing barber services (Preferred) And
  • Prior Experience in behavioral health or similar patient care settings (Preferred)
