The Infection Control Nurse will assess, plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate and direct the infection control and employee health programs in accordance with local, state and federal regulations specifically CIHQ standards; CDC, OSHA and local regulations concerning infection control, blood and body fluids and universal precautions.  The Infection Control Program is directed by a Medical Director to ensure and maintain an effective infection control program..

The Infection Control Nurse duties include:

  • Overseeing the annual development, implementation, and evaluation of Infection Prevention goals and objectives, and conducting planning and risk assessment to reduce and control the risk of health care associated infections
  • Maintaining an effective hospital-wide program for the surveillance, prevention and control of infections, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommendations and CIHQ standards
  • Integrating infection control into all hospital activities and developing awareness about the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
  • Maintaining regular communication with agencies, healthcare facilities, and federal, state, and local public health authorities
  • Preserving and improving the quality of care by sharing information with all relevant departments
  • Managing the collection and analysis of healthcare associated infection data, as well as the development and presentation of reports and educational programs for personnel and patients
  • Ensuring that requested patient information is provided to the Department of Health Services, and recommending to local leadership/Risk Management when Public Health/Dept. of Health should be notified in the event of an outbreak
  • Overseeing infection prevention and control practices, as well as assisting departments in survey readiness and preparation for regulatory standard reviews, accreditation and licensure surveys in both the acute and ambulatory care areas (e.g. CIHQ, OSHA, DPH, CMS, etc.)

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum nursing degree from an accredited school or nursing. 
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years clinical experience in an acute hospital or other related healthcare facility. 
  • Must possess a working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious disease, and aseptic technique to include standard/universal precautions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state employed. 
  • APIC Certification in infection control preferred, but not necessary.
  • Must maintain current Provider CPR Certification throughout employment.
