Logan Regional

Logan Regional Medical Center is a 132-bed acute care facility in Logan, West Virginia. The hospital offers a full range of health care services in a recently expanded facility. A renovated $1.1 million Physical Rehabilitation Unit opened in 2003. A $20 million Emergency Department and Facility Renovation, completed in 2005, added approximately 42,000 square feet to the facility and renovated approximately 8,000 square feet within the existing hospital. The Emergency Department includes 22 rooms, a portable X-ray unit, a CAT scan, a portable ultrasound, X-ray rooms and three trauma rooms. The second floor includes the Women’s Center, with three labor and delivery suites, a staging area and a nine-bed nursery with the latest in safety and LDR security features. PACS Technology, which allows physicians in the Emergency Department to make consultations 24 hours a day with radiologists at other facilities across the country, has also been installed. Job Summary

  • Responsible for the collection, decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment. Supports surgical services and hospital units by ensuring the availability of sterile instruments and supplies while adhering to regulatory standards. Works under the guidance of a certified technician or supervisor while completing certification requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Collect and decontaminate used instruments and equipment
  • Inspect and assemble surgical instrument sets
  • Operate autoclaves and sterilization equipment safely
  • Maintain inventory and storage of sterile supplies
  • Follow infection control guidelines (AAMI, AORN, OSHA)
  • Communicate effectively with surgical and nursing teams
  • Document sterilization cycles and quality control checks
  • Assist with case cart assembly and distribution

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently
  • Basic computer and documentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Physical ability to lift and transport instruments and supplies
  • Commitment to learning and achieving certification

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of or enrollment in a central sterile processing program preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certification not required upon hire

Experience

  • Previous experience in healthcare or sterile processing environment preferred
