Logan Regional

Logan Regional Medical Center is a 132-bed acute care facility in Logan, West Virginia. The hospital offers a full range of health care services in a recently expanded facility. A renovated $1.1 million Physical Rehabilitation Unit opened in 2003. A $20 million Emergency Department and Facility Renovation, completed in 2005, added approximately 42,000 square feet to the facility and renovated approximately 8,000 square feet within the existing hospital. The Emergency Department includes 22 rooms, a portable X-ray unit, a CAT scan, a portable ultrasound, X-ray rooms and three trauma rooms. The second floor includes the Women’s Center, with three labor and delivery suites, a staging area and a nine-bed nursery with the latest in safety and LDR security features. PACS Technology, which allows physicians in the Emergency Department to make consultations 24 hours a day with radiologists at other facilities across the country, has also been installed. Job Summary

  • The RN – Endoscopy provides nursing care to patients undergoing gastrointestinal and related endoscopic procedures. This includes pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure assistance, monitoring of sedation and patient response, and post-procedure recovery. The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care throughout the procedural experience.

Essential Functions

  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care before, during, and after endoscopy procedures
  • Administers and monitors conscious sedation and manages patient responses during procedures
  • Assists physicians with endoscopic procedures including biopsies, polyp removal, and hemostasis
  • Monitors patient condition, vital signs, and cardiac rhythms, reporting changes promptly
  • Provides pre- and post-procedure patient education and discharge instructions
  • Documents all nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment, adheres to infection control and safety protocols
  • Handles specimens appropriately and ensures proper labeling and documentation
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and staff education
  • Responds effectively to emergencies and follows facility emergency protocols

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills/Expectations

  • Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills
  • Proficient in IV therapy, sedation monitoring, and airway management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Familiarity with endoscopic equipment, sterile technique, and procedural workflow
  • Competency in electronic documentation and EMR systems
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and team collaboration
  • Physical ability to assist with patient positioning and respond to clinical demands

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), required within time frame specified in facility policy
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), required within time frame specified in facility policy
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 6 months of clinical nursing experience in a direct patient care setting preferred
  • Previous endoscopy, perioperative, or critical care experience preferred
