Logan Regional

Logan Regional Medical Center is a 132-bed acute care facility in Logan, West Virginia. The hospital offers a full range of health care services in a recently expanded facility. A renovated $1.1 million Physical Rehabilitation Unit opened in 2003. A $20 million Emergency Department and Facility Renovation, completed in 2005, added approximately 42,000 square feet to the facility and renovated approximately 8,000 square feet within the existing hospital. The Emergency Department includes 22 rooms, a portable X-ray unit, a CAT scan, a portable ultrasound, X-ray rooms and three trauma rooms. The second floor includes the Women’s Center, with three labor and delivery suites, a staging area and a nine-bed nursery with the latest in safety and LDR security features. PACS Technology, which allows physicians in the Emergency Department to make consultations 24 hours a day with radiologists at other facilities across the country, has also been installed. Job Summary

Assists respiratory therapists with preparing for and providing patient care.

Essential Functions

  • Delivers routine therapy as delegated by a therapist.
  • Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance.
  • Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition.
  • Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
  • Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
  • Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
  • Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Skills in applying and modifying respiratory care principals, methods and techniques to provide optimal patient care.
  • Performs independently with the ability to identify problems and recommend solutions to optimize patient care.
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional relationships with patients, peers, medical staff, and the public.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and observes HIPPA regulations.
  • Attends mandatory in services and related continuing education classes.
  • Treats all customers including patients, families, physicians, coworkers, managers, and outside contacts, with courtesy, dignity, respect and professionalism.
  • Performs other functions as requested.
  • Takes standby call as needed to cover patient load.

  • Ability to work under stress and to respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills when working or interacting with residents, their families and other staff members.
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively through verbal and written means to extent necessary to perform job duties appropriately.

  • Reading and comprehension at level necessary to perform job duties appropriately.

Qualifications

Education

  • Technical or trade education as required for accreditation as a respiratory tech.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Appropriate state licensure as required by state of practice.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRRT) preferred.

Experience

  • Patient care experience preferred.
