Logan Regional

Logan Regional Medical Center is a 132-bed acute care facility in Logan, West Virginia. The hospital offers a full range of health care services in a recently expanded facility. A renovated $1.1 million Physical Rehabilitation Unit opened in 2003. A $20 million Emergency Department and Facility Renovation, completed in 2005, added approximately 42,000 square feet to the facility and renovated approximately 8,000 square feet within the existing hospital. The Emergency Department includes 22 rooms, a portable X-ray unit, a CAT scan, a portable ultrasound, X-ray rooms and three trauma rooms. The second floor includes the Women’s Center, with three labor and delivery suites, a staging area and a nine-bed nursery with the latest in safety and LDR security features. PACS Technology, which allows physicians in the Emergency Department to make consultations 24 hours a day with radiologists at other facilities across the country, has also been installed. Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Women's Services provides direct, compassionate care to women and infants in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the LPN supports maternal, newborn, and pediatric patient needs through monitoring, treatments, education, and coordination with interdisciplinary teams. This role requires emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and a patient-centered mindset.

Essential Functions

  • Contribute to patient assessment by collecting data for RN analysis
  • Perform care interventions including medication administration and specimen collection
  • Document care and changes in patient condition
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation
  • Educate patients and families regarding care appropriate to condition, age, and culture
  • Support interdisciplinary care coordination for transfer, discharge, and referrals
  • Promote a safe and emotionally supportive environment for women and infants
  • Advocate for patients' physical and emotional well-being
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or RN

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Proficient in maternal, infant, and pediatric nursing fundamentals
  • Strong judgment, decision-making, and time management skills
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively across disciplines
  • High level of professionalism and respect for diversity and patient privacy
  • Adherence to infection control and safety standards
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and adapt to physically demanding settings

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited practical/vocational nursing program

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current LPN license in state of practice or Compact State License (if applicable)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required upon hire)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – within time frame specified in facility policy
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – within time frame specified in facility policy
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – within time frame specified in facility policy
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or Handle with Care– within time frame specified in facility policy  
  • IV Therapy Certification Course – within time frame specified in facility policy

Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work in high-stress environments
  • Previous experience in women’s health or pediatric care preferred
