Logan Regional

Logan Regional Medical Center is a 132-bed acute care facility in Logan, West Virginia. The hospital offers a full range of health care services in a recently expanded facility. A renovated $1.1 million Physical Rehabilitation Unit opened in 2003. A $20 million Emergency Department and Facility Renovation, completed in 2005, added approximately 42,000 square feet to the facility and renovated approximately 8,000 square feet within the existing hospital. The Emergency Department includes 22 rooms, a portable X-ray unit, a CAT scan, a portable ultrasound, X-ray rooms and three trauma rooms. The second floor includes the Women’s Center, with three labor and delivery suites, a staging area and a nine-bed nursery with the latest in safety and LDR security features. PACS Technology, which allows physicians in the Emergency Department to make consultations 24 hours a day with radiologists at other facilities across the country, has also been installed. The Director of Rehab is a registered professional nurse who directs and coordinates the overall activities of the Rehab Unit to provide an optimum level of care within the unit. He/She guides patient-centered care in accordance with TJC, OSHA, physician orders, nursing and departmental guidelines, and other regulatory agencies.

Exercises considerable judgment, analytical and reasoning skills and uses individual competence and qualifications as criteria for prioritizing unit and hospital needs, seeking consultation, accepting responsibilities and appropriately delegating clinical activities to others to accomplish appropriate clinical outcomes.
Must maintain function of nursing unit by assuring adequate staffing, supplies, and equipment.
Must assure that emergency care is guided by practice standards, policies and procedures.
The Director is responsible for all aspects of care delivery throughout the unit.

He/She is responsible for acting in accordance with physician orders, Standards of Nursing Practice, departmental policies and procedures, as
well as, JCAHO guidelines for the care of patients twenty fours hours a day. Must possess the ability to make rational and unconstrained decisions and act in a calm, professional manner. Must be able to apply clinical knowledge, skills, and judgment in emergency situations to maintain patient stability. Decisions regarding changes in policies and procedures are made in collaboration with Senior Manager, hospital administration and/or physicians.


Qualifications

Completion of a program for Registered Nurses with an appropriate degree in Nursing and licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of West Virginia. Five (5) years of progressive nursing experience with two (2) years supervisory experience; BSN preferred. BLS required to be obtained within 30 days of hire Must achieve PALS and ACLS within 1 year of the hire date, and maintain active certification thereafter.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing and to conduct self in a courteous and professional manner.
Ability to guide and direct activities and staff to provide optimal patient care. Utilizes the nursing process as a framework for patient care while recognizing the dignity and worth of each patient. Collaborates with other health care members to maintain a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Provides direction and guidance on designated unit to assure quality care and patient safety. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills and positive, enthusiastic attitude to guide and direct all aspects of patient care in their designated unit. Prepares staffing schedules utilizing census and patient acuity to assure staffing is consistent with patient needs and budgetary guidelines Supervises personnel in the performance of their duties, evaluates and recommends disciplinary action including discharge of employees when necessary. Provides in service education for the staff utilizing unit assessment needs, policies and procedures, standards of care, continuous quality improvement indicators, incident report investigations, and state and regulator agencies.
Develops policies and procedures and standards of care/practice to direct the operation of the designated unit and assists in development of those for all nursing services. Develops performance improvement activities to assure continuous monitoring and improvement of patient care.
Prepares the yearly budget consistent with patient and unit needs while maintaining cost effectiveness.
Participates in various hospital committees as directed to assist in attainment of hospital goals.
Provides direct patient care when necessary to assure quality patient care utilizing the nursing process.
Participates in community activities as requested to promote wellness and the hospital.
Ensures accurate, complete and current job descriptions for the all staff of assigned departments.
Performance evaluations are complete and on time.
