Job Summary

The RN Coordinator/Specialist – ICU is responsible for coordinating patient care delivery and supporting clinical and operational functions within the Intensive Care Unit. The role works closely with the interdisciplinary team to provide high-acuity, evidence-based care while ensuring quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and effective resource utilization. The RN Coordinator/Specialist serves as a clinical resource, mentor, and leader to ICU staff, promoting excellence in critical care nursing.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate daily ICU operations, including patient care planning, rounding, and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Serve as a clinical resource for ICU nurses regarding protocols, procedures, and complex patient conditions
  • Assist in developing and evaluating individualized care plans in collaboration with providers and clinical teams
  • Monitor quality of care, patient safety practices, and documentation standards
  • Facilitate communication between ICU staff, providers, patients, and families
  • Support new staff onboarding and continuing education initiatives for the ICU team
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and assist in implementing evidence-based practice changes
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including Joint Commission, CMS, and internal policies
  • Monitor equipment use and assist in maintaining supplies and readiness of the unit
  • Document nursing and coordination activities in the electronic medical record (EMR)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Expertise in critical care nursing and ICU clinical protocols
  • Strong assessment, triage, and decision-making skills
  • Proficient in EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to lead by example and foster a collaborative team environment

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or Administration preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current RN licensure in the state of practice or compact state required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within time frame required by facility policy
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within time frame required by facility policy

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of critical care nursing experience in an ICU setting required
  • Experience in care coordination, quality improvement, or nursing leadership preferred
