The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is a highly skilled advanced practice nurse specializing in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of individuals with mental health conditions. Working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the PMHNP provides evidence-based psychiatric care to adults and the elderly. Responsibilities include conducting thorough mental health assessments, prescribing and managing psychiatric medications, providing psychotherapy, and developing individualized treatment plans. The PMHNP works closely with patients to promote mental wellness, manage symptoms, and improve overall quality of life. This role requires a deep understanding of psychiatric disorders, a strong foundation in nursing practice, and a commitment to compassionate patient care. The PMHNP also collaborates with other healthcare providers, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, to ensure comprehensive and holistic care delivery.
Essential Functions:
·Assessing patients’ mental health status through interviews, history taking, and physical examinations.
·Diagnosing mental health disorders and creating treatment plans.
·Prescribing and monitoring psychiatric medications.
·Providing psychotherapy and counseling services.
·Educating patients and families on mental health issues and treatment options.
·Collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
·Documenting patient progress and treatment outcomes.
·Staying current with advancements in psychiatric care and best practices.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations:
·Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
·Basic computer knowledge.
·Able to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities and function in stressful situations.
·Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
·Approximate percent of time required to travel: 0%
·Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
·Must have good and regular attendance.
·Education: MSN from a PMHNP Program
·Licenses/Certification: Current state licensure as Nurse Practitioner. BLS certification required. De-escalation training required.
·Experience: 2 years of Psych experience
