The Senior Director of Physician Services, is responsible for the overall direction, supervision and coordination of functions and activities related to the St. Joseph Medical Group (SJMG) in conjunction with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center including the management of the primary and specialty care physician clinics and office services including Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Neurology, Urology, Pulmonologist, Cardiology, Interventional Radiology and future expansion of physician services.

Primary Duties

  • Responsible for supporting, actualizing & implementing the Medical Center's Philosophy, Role and Mission.This position requires a commitment to the key values of Service to the Poor, Reverence, Integrity, Wisdom, Creativity and Dedication.
  • Physician recruiting program development:
    • Development of the physician development plan for growth and succession planning of primary and specialty care providers for the SJ Medical Group
    • Evaluation of alternate recruitment programs such as GME (residency programs) as a recruiting strategy
    • Evaluate and implement practice models to promote physician recruitment (e.g. locums as placeholders)
    • Promote appropriate employment or partnership arrangements with established community physicians as needed to meet the needs of the development plan
  • Physician group development (in partnership with Chief Medical Officer):
    • Develop/support physician governance and leadership;
      • Build SJMG group culture and patient-centric care models
      • Promote clinical quality initiatives
      • Promote fiscal accountability and maintain fiscal performance metrics based on appropriate benchmarks
      • Identify and develop physician leadership within the medical group
    • Optimize physician practice operations;
      • Oversight of general practice operations through the leadership of the Director of Clinic Operations, Director of Clinical Clinic Operations, and the Director of SJMG Business Office.
      • Implement and optimize practice based electronic medical record for clinic based operations.
  • Development of regional provider opportunities to develop a clinically integrated network to develop a regional medical continuum of care.
    • Evaluate, establish and monitor partnerships or affiliations with local medical groups and/or ASC’s
    • Other regional opportunities
    • Evaluate, establish and monitor partnerships or affiliations with regional resources, physicians, etc.
      • PSA arrangements with community physicians
      • Risk management opportunities
    • Promote ongoing development of community conversation regarding changes in the medical care paradigm
      • “ACO” and PCMH development
      • Integrated strategies for data sharing
  • Executive Team duties:
    • Assists the Medical Center in meeting the yearly institutional goals and objectives.
    • Assists in the development, interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures affecting the Medical Center activities and personnel.
    • In conjunction with members of the Executive Team, acts as liaison among the Board of Directors, the Medical Staff and the Medical Center's personnel.
    • Assists in the provision of facilities and equipment consistent with community needs and goals of the Medical Group and insures that high physician standards are maintained for health care.
    • Represents the Medical Center to the community and participates in community affairs.
    • Within Physician Services Division is responsible for maintaining sound financial structure, which includes preparation of a budget and making recommendations covering future operations of the St. Joseph Medical Group.
    • Assists in the formulation of sound personnel policies and disseminating these policies to all Medical Center employees. Also assists in the selection and training of qualified department directors.
    • Keeps abreast of advances in management techniques and business methods, technological changes, and economic and political trends, and broadening the perspective and scope of the Medical Center's services to meet expanding needs of the community.
    • Prepares periodic reports on progress and programs, as well as activities and projected plans of the Medical Center for internal use and for submission to Ascension Health.
    • Annually reviews each director and manager within the Division for job performance, effectiveness, and job accomplishments.
    • Attends meetings of the SJMG Governance Group, SJRMC Board of Directors, and the General Medical Staff.
    • Serves as administrative liaison on various Medical Staff and Medical Center committees.
    • Assures compliance with the Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements for assigned areas of responsibility.
    • Represents the President/CEO at meetings or on other committees when assigned or requested.
    • Performs special projects and other duties as determined by the President/CEO.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree
  • Minimum of 5-years administrative experience in physician practice management and physician relations
  • Excellent human relations and leadership skills, and result oriented

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with hospital owned physician groups preferred
  • ACMPE Certification and/or Fellowship preferred
