Job Summary

Plans and administers professional nursing care to patients in the recovery room/post-anesthesia care unit.

Essential Functions

  • Cares for surgical patients as they recover from anesthesia.
  • Monitors vital signs, such as heart or respiratory rate, blood pressure, or oxygen level.
  • Comforts patients as they wake; may be required to gently restrain patients.
  • Checks surgical site for excessive bleeding or swelling.
  • Monitors, documents, and communicates care given, patient's status and reactions to interventions.
  • Educates patients on care for the surgical wound or other post-discharge care.
  • Performs work under minimal supervision.
  • Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma program.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice.
  • BCLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification as required by facility of practice.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year nursing experience.
