POSITION SUMMARY

Provides basic nursing services for patients as delegated by and under the direct supervision of the RNContributes to the delivery of patient treatment by providing personal hygiene, comfort, safety, protection, and facilitatestreatment programming.

PRIMARY (ESSENTIAL) DUTIES

  1. Provides physical and emotional comfort and safety for patient.
  2. Leads Program Therapy Groups and reports patient status and goals for the day to the Treatment Team.
  3. Accompanies patients (as assigned) to Program groups and meetings.
  4. Facilitates Wrap-Up Group and Relaxation Exercises at the end of each patient day.
  5. Assistspatient in caring for daily hygienic needs, such as bathing, mouth and teeth care, and bowel and bladder habits.
  6. Assists with delivery/retrieval of trays; prepares patients for meals.
  7. Assists with feeding and providing fluids to designated patients.
  8. Assists with patient ambulation, transporting or transferring patient using wheelchair or wheeled stretchers, and with moving and positioning patients.
  9. Accurately collects and records patient's temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, height, and weight.
  10. Adheres to principles of isolation and universal precautions.
  11. Accurately measures and records oral intake and output.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

The Psych Tech reports to the Clinical Coordinator. Workload is based upon patient needs and treatment/intervention activities designed to meet those needs. The care of patients occurs within a system where the interdependent departments of the Medical Center contributes to and responds to the workload.

DEPARTMENT RELATIONSHIP AND PUBLIC CONTACT

  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and effectively with chemically dependent and psychiatric patients
  • Ability to deal with varied personalities and situations involving staff and patients
  • Demonstrate ability to function successfully leading a team environment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED Required. 
  • BLS required
  • Active Idaho CNA or EMT registrationrequired
  • Possess knowledge and ability to accept direction and perform specific tasks for which he/she has been prepared.
  • Experience with inpatient psychiatry and procedures related to this area of clinical practice is desirable, but not required

PUBLIC CONTACT

Interacts directly and indirectly with patients and families, medical staff, and other members of the health care team. The Psych Techparticipates in individual and group supervision sessions and regularly interacts with other department personnel to coordinate the delivery of patient careEffective interpersonal skills are necessary; positive interactions between staff-patient-family-team members are essential for the development to therapeutic relationships and paramount for establishing and maintaining high levels of patient satisfaction.

Must thoroughly integrate philosophy of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and Patient Care Services division into roleGuest relations require considerate attention to patients, other employees, public, physicians, and other members of the health care teamA primary objective of the position is to maintain or create an environment conducive to development, maintenance, or enhancement of adaptive responses.
