Job Summary

The Nursing Supervisor ensures effective delivery of patient care and operational oversight across all clinical units during their assigned shift. Serving as the on-site nursing administrator after regular business hours, the Nursing Supervisor coordinates interdepartmental functions, supports staff, and responds to emergent needs involving patient care, staffing, and administrative decisions. This position promotes patient safety, team leadership, and continuity of care.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees nursing operations across hospital departments during assigned shifts.
  • Acts as the administrator-on-site and liaison for leadership during off-hours.
  • Ensures patient care meets the Nurse Practice Act and ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.
  • Coordinates staffing, resolves conflicts, and addresses resource needs across units.
  • Supports hospital-wide policies and participates in implementation and evaluation.
  • Provides leadership during emergency situations and responds to critical events.
  • Maintains open communication with staff, promotes collaboration, and supports team morale.
  • Participates in the orientation and development of new nursing staff.
  • Promotes safety, infection control, and risk management initiatives.
  • Documents activities and significant events occurring during the shift and escalates issues appropriately.

  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Effective leadership, team coordination, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and professional standards of nursing.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Required)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a healthcare/business-related bachelor's degree (Preferred)

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio or compact license (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (Required)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Required)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (Preferred)

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience (Required)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a charge nurse or leadership role (Required)
