Job Summary

The Medical Assistant Lead performs advanced clinical and administrative functions to support physicians and nurses within the medical practice. This role leads day-to-day operations of the clinical support team, ensures high standards of patient care, and functions as a mentor and resource for other Medical Assistants. The Lead utilizes certified-level competencies to deliver excellent patient outcomes while maintaining regulatory compliance, clinical efficiency, and service excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Perform and oversee clinical procedures including rooming patients, vital signs, EKGs, specimen collection, wound care, and immunizations
  • Assist in preparation and administration of medications under physician direction
  • Supervise and support day-to-day clinical operations, workflows, and staff assignments
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new and uncertified Medical Assistants
  • Coordinate patient care activities such as referrals, prior authorizations, and education
  • Ensure proper documentation and maintain EMR accuracy for clinical tasks
  • Monitor inventory, maintain equipment, and ensure clinical readiness
  • Uphold and audit compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards
  • Lead or support quality improvement initiatives and staff training programs
  • Function as liaison between clinical staff and leadership to address operational issues

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical software
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to triage and escalate patient concerns appropriately
  • Professional demeanor and ability to lead by example
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, accuracy, and team collaboration
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a medical office or outpatient clinic setting
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
