JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the assistant laboratory director, is responsible for coordinating the daily operation and the activities of the phlebotomy staff. As a working supervisor, performs a variety of procedures in the section.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains policies, standards, and procedures set forth by the laboratory.
  • Coordinates the planning of schedules and work assignments of the staff within the section to insure an even distribution of the workload and to maintain the skill levels of all staff members.
  • Orients new employees when hired and will train all employees if new procedures, instruments or methods are established.
  • Ensures that the phlebotomy staff performs all tasks and procedures according to standard criteria.
  • Assists point of care coordinator with training and review as required.
  • Ensures that all record keeping procedures, both manual and computerized, are performed according to established protocol. Follows universal precaution procedures in order to minimize exposure to infection diseases.
  • Ensures staff in section follow all safety policies. 
  • Ensures that regulatory compliance is met with regards to disposal of biohazardous waste products.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent, Required

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications

Phlebotomy Certification preferred

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum three years experience as a phlebotomy technician.
