Description

POSITION SUMMARY

  • The HVAC technician, under the direction of the Director Facilities Management, shall maintain through preventative maintenance or repairs all HVAC equipment within the Medical Center and properties

PRIMARY (ESSENTIAL) DUTIES

  • Performing preventative maintenance on all HVAC units as well as emergency repairs
  • Ability to troubleshoot various types of AHU, RTU, ACE
  • Works with our work order system to perform scheduled and non scheduled PMs
  • Helps to maintain proper air relationships throughout Hospital system
  • Work with vendors to purchase parts for stock or repairs
  • Ability to work after hours, over weekends as well as being on call
  • Estimates quantities of materials needed and prepares requisitions
  • Performs all work in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

SECONDARY DUTIES

  • May be required to review installation with building inspectors to insure compliance with codes
  • At times, may be required to perform duties related to Maintenance Mechanics, i.e., pump repairs, basic mechanical work, etc.
  • Attends mandatory updates on an annual basis
  • Review maintenance department policy and procedure manual on an annual basis
  • Restores electrical connections to complete circuits, as necessary
  • Repairs electrical circuits and equipment, as necessary
  • Dismantles electrical machinery with hand tools and unsolders or unscrews wiring connections, as required
  • Helps to run generators on load to ensure proper operation in event of an emergency
  • Runs wire through conduit to make connections, as required

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Works cooperatively with all departments in the Medical Center
  • Accepts work orders and assignments from the Department Director or designee
  • Responds to phone requests from various departments as needed

DEPARTMENT RELATIONSHIP

  • Supervised directly by the Director
  • Position does not supervise anyone and there is no formal line of promotion to or from this position
  • Works under general supervision
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize work efficiently and document time on work orders

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

LICENSURE

  • Maintain all licenses related to position (EPA, Idaho HVAC licenses).

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years experience as a HVAC technician, preferably in a hospital or institution
  • Background in basic electronics is highly desirable
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to exercise sound judgment in absence of supervision
  • Considers the protection of all hospital patients, personnel and public
  • Cautiously maintains airflow to critical and essential areas when making repairs as well as informing Director or designee if needing to shut equipment down.

  • Must communicate effectively intra-departmentally with other members of the Maintenance staff, as well as inter-departmentally with all members of the Medical Center
  • Interpersonal skills will be carried out in a mature, courteous and professional manner

  • Show good ability to establish effective rapport with patients when working in patient care areas

WORKING CONDITIONS  

  • Work is medium
  • Lifts, carries, pushes and pulls a variety of materials weighing up to 50 pounds. When weights are heavier, may receive assistance or use mechanical aids
  • Climbs, balances, stoops, kneels and crouches to gain access to the various components in the hospital system
  • May be required to work in awkward positions at times
  • Handles small parts such as contacts and wiring when making connections
  • Reaches for and handles a variety of hand tools, meters and parts
  • Near visual acuity when reading blueprints, schematics and handling small parts
  • Depth perception, field vision and color vision when making connections, soldering and splicing wires
  • Works inside and outside
  • Is exposed to hazards of electrical shocks and burns as well as falls from ladders and scaffolds.
