Job Summary

The Clinic-Medical Assistant (MA) has duties and responsibilities:

  • Related to patient care in the ambulatory clinic environment
  • The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team
  • The MA reports to the Clinic Site Supervisor/Manager, who is responsible for administrative supervision, staff development, and orientation of the MA to the area's policies and procedures
  • The MA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care
  • The MA maintains an inventory of examination/procedure room supplies, assists in the organization of efficient patient flow, and organizes the clinic environment to assure patient safety
  • The MA demonstrates problem-solving skills as they relate to patient care activities, provides guidance for and acts as a role model for Medical Assistants in the clinical area

Essential Duties

  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes and records patient history and vital signs
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms; select, setup and maintain medical supplies and equipment for all examinations, procedures and sterilization
  • Gives injections, applies splints and dressings, removes sutures and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders
  • May collect and/or transport specimens
  • May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial and follow up appointments
  • May maintain patient files, records, and other information including entry of data into electronic medical record
  • May provide phone screening and routing of patient information to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician
  • Collaborates with a variety of personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations
  • Establishes priorities and accomplishes tasks in a timely manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education 

  • High School Diploma/GED diploma. required
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program that is accredited by CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or ABHES (Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools), preferred

License/Certification

  • Current BLS-HCP by date of hire, required
  • National Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant through an accredited body, or current active LPN License in the state of Idaho, or current CNA License in the state of Idaho, preferred

Experience

  • Previous experience in a medical setting
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience with AllScripts or other Electronic Medical Record programs.
