Job Summary

The RN – Quality supports the organization’s quality and performance improvement initiatives by analyzing clinical data, collaborating with clinical teams, and developing informatics-based tools to enhance patient care. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality-related processes, including clinical performance metrics, compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting the integrity of electronic health records (EHRs). The RN – Quality works closely with clinicians, informatics staff, and leadership to ensure data accuracy and supports the design of care processes that enhance patient outcomes.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze patient care data and trends to identify areas for improvement and report findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to design, implement, and evaluate performance improvement initiatives.
  • Use informatics tools and methodologies to support quality measurement, reporting, and clinical decision-making.
  • Develop, modify, and support data structures and dashboards for clinical outcome tracking.
  • Provide consultation to clinical staff on electronic health record (EHR) functionality, documentation compliance, and data integrity.
  • Monitor and interpret clinical quality indicators in accordance with hospital, state, and federal requirements.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to quality assurance, data privacy, and patient safety.
  • Serve on hospital committees and task forces related to quality and performance improvement.
  • Stay informed on best practices, regulatory updates, and innovations in quality and healthcare informatics.
  • Support survey readiness and accreditation efforts (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret clinical data
  • Proficiency in health information technology and data systems (e.g., EHR platforms, dashboards)
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., CMS, TJC)
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and influence change
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Work is typically performed in an office environment with occasional time in clinical areas
  • May require extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking
  • Occasional travel between departments or facilities may be required
  • Standard hospital or administrative office setting
  • Exposure to clinical environments and computer-based systems
  • Participates in on-site meetings, trainings, and quality reviews

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Information Systems preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing, in applicable state(s) of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Certification in Healthcare Quality, Nursing Informatics, or similar field preferred (e.g., CPHQ, ANCC Nursing Informatics)

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting
  • 1–2 years of experience in healthcare quality, informatics, or performance improvement preferred
