Description

 Position Summary:

  • Observes, operates, and adjusts all mechanical devices (pumps, engines, motors, fans, etc.) in operation and conducts reporting as required.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove and/or replace defective parts
  • Test devices for performance and record their functions as per indicator light, gauges, etc.
  • Lubricates and cleans mechanical parts and makes repairs to various types of equipment
  • Completion of assigned work area and preventative maintenance documentation
  • Mandatory rotating On Call
  • Have working knowledge of Nursecall System
  • Have working knowledge on operation of hospital beds
  • Assists in hospital fire drills and reports
  • Observe and test operations of function of fire smoke doors and associated hardware and repairs
  • Have working knowledge of water heater, vacuum pump, medical air pump, water pumps, fire alarm and fan coil units
  • Repairs faucets, drains on sinks, tubs, commodes, shower valves, water leaks, and sewer lines
  • Repairs, paints, walls and door jambs
  • Assists replacing lights, filters and ceiling tiles
  • Assists in caulking toilets, shower and walls
  • Assists with moving furniture
  • Repairs doors and door hardware
  • Has working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and air conditioning fields
  • Assists with keeping all work areas clean and organized
  • Effectively adjusts schedule as required to perform urgent assignments or special projects

Degree of Supervision Required:

Involves general guidance and direction by Supervisor or Department Manager.  The Engineer, is expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to climb, kneel, stoop and perform assigned duties under semi-stressful situations.  It requires corrected hearing and vision within functional ranges, bending and reaching.  The employee must be able to carry push, pull and lift >80lbs., operate measurement devices and to assemble and disassemble equipment

Personal Protective Equipment: 

This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various maintenance activities.  Personal protective equipment is defined as: Back support belts, gloves, hearing protection, masks, gowns and safety glasses.


Qualifications

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • High School diploma/Equivalent

Experience:

  • 3 years experience Hospital or Building maintenance preferred, but will accept well-rounded, facility savvy individual with above average mechanical aptitude

Special Qualifications:

  • Must have a good working knowledge of general hand tools and small power tools.
  • Must be able to do all phases of commercial facilities work, Good have good communication skills, and computer skill helpful. 
  • Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Must pass departmental facilities aptitude test with a score of 70%.
