Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily activities of the surgical area

Essential Functions

  • Direct the daily operations of the department including staff scheduling, ensuring the delivery of optimal patient care
  • Develop new methods to improve existing systems or operations
  • Assess developmental needs of staff and develop continuing education and quality assurance programs to optimize patient care
  • Research supplies, instruments and equipment and recommend purchases to the CFO/CNO
  • Assist in the selection, training and evaluation of subordinates and initiate personnel actions in accordance with Human Resources policies and organization philosophy
  • Maintain the necessary level of professional knowledge and technical proficiency in areas of functional responsibility
  • Complete required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements
  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served within the unit as needed

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program

Licenses/Certification

  • Valid state license as Registered Nurse
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications are required
  • De-escalation training required

Experience

  • Three years of operating room experience as a Registered Nurse preferred
