The Behavioral Health Director of Nursing holds 24-hour unit accountability to supervise and provide direct patient care by utilization of the nursing process in accordance with established policies and procedures of Southwestern Medical Center. Develops and maintains clinical competencies through continuing education. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates team members competency through PI projects, patient care outcomes, customer satisfaction surveys. Assists in the achievement of the financial and operational objectives of the hospital.Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrates leadership skills and the ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality.Exhibits initiative by seeking opportunities for professional growth.
Service Excellence:
Participates in the Hospital’s Service Excellence Program designed to improve patient care, employee and physician satisfaction.Participation includes knowledge of HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Systems and Providers, which measures patient’s perceptions of care received and Core Measure Set, which measures performance of patients’, care based on medical research.
TASKS:
· Works collaboratively with comprehensive leadership team, and all ancillary departments. (Adult Unit, Children’s Unit, Adolescent Unit, Intake, Outpatient Clinic, Main Campus).
· Oversees clinical team member education from orientation/preceptor phase, through annual competencies. Integrates continuing education through a combination of In-service training and LifeTalent Learning Modules.
· Directs/Manages clinical team members (RNs and LPNs); perform 30/90 day, and annual evaluations.
· Assists with clinical staffing and scheduling for all 3 inpatient units (RNs, LPNs, MHTs).
· Participates in admin on-call rotation for staffing, as needed.
· Maintains Survey Readiness for all relevant regulatory agencies: TJC; OHCA; OKDHS; CMS.
· Maintains HBIPS compliance and is active in the abstraction process.
· Oversees restraint and seclusion utilization in terms of appropriateness of application, reduction of usage; quality of documentation; trending and aggregating all relevant data.
· Oversees monitoring, review, and closure of incident/occurrence reporting system.
· Acts as a liaison with nursing practicum programs: OU/Western/GPAVT .
· Oversees vaccination program (VFC and Private).
· Champion of all clinical processes.
· Participates in nursing relevant hospital wide committees (i.e. medication safety committee).
· Oversees Behavioral Health Charge RN program: criteria for promotion; assignment of duties; maintenance of Charge status.
· Leads regular nursing meetings, Charge RN meetings. Plays active role in unit specific meetings and department wide meetings.
· Oversees the Administration of medications, to include education of patients and families on indication use and side effects.
· Plays integral role in the Behavioral Health Performance Improvement plan. Formulates specific plans; tracks and trends data; composes relevant reports and shares findings with Behavioral Administration & QA/Risk Management quarterly; delegates assignments where appropriate.
· Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
· Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
· Provides oversight on ordering, interpreting, and evaluation of diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's conditions.
· Collaborates with coordinating discharge plans and care.
· Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
· Manages budgeted supplies.
· Develops and implements Community Outreach Strategies – Referral Development.
· Maintains the safety of the Milieu at all times.
· Promotes customer service (Patients, Families, Visitors, Team Members).
As a Director of Behavioral Health you will have:
· Must possess a current Registered Nurse License for the State of Oklahoma
· BLS certification within first week of hire
· MAB within 30 days of hire
EDUCATION:
· Graduate from an accredited professional nurse program
EXPERIENCE:
· Minimum 6 months of leadership experience
