Job Summary

  • Creates a sanitary, safe environment and enhances the appearance of the facility

Essential Functions

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation

  • Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity
  • Performs routine cleaning of nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators and stairways, according to policies and procedures, as assigned
  • Cleans patient rooms daily, including collecting and removing trash, changing bed linens, and sanitizing all surfaces, according to policies and procedures
  • Stocks paper items and other supplies in patient rooms, or other areas, as necessary or designated
  • Maintains cart and equipment in clean, working condition and stores in appropriate storage area when finished with shift
  • Performs all assigned tasks in a timely, professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Environmental Services Department
  • Transports trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area
  • Always introduces self to patients, families, and visitors
  • Assists visitors with directions or other requests, when necessary
  • Follows all infection control practices including hand hygiene techniques, standard precautions and isolation precautions
  • Maintains set quality standards and regulatory requirements when performing job duties
  • Observes safety precautions at all times, reports safety hazards as appropriate
  • Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure
  • Job requires that you must be able to minimally lift and pull

Non-Essential Functions

  • Ensures supplies are adequately stocked and organized
  • Ensures equipment is operating safely and correctly
  • Responsible for maintaining facility safety

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent, is preferred

Experience

  • Prior housekeeping / environmental services experience is preferred

  • Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work

  • Ability to respond to and cope with emergency situations professionally and calmly
  • Adaptable to performing well under pressure in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
  • Must be flexible, able to work as needed for appropriate departmental coverage. day, evening or night shift as assigned
  • Basic computer knowledge; become proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates proficient time management skills
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
