Job Summary

The Storeroom Clerk is responsible for operating the hospital storeroom and managing inventory and supply distribution systems. This includes maintaining par levels, preparing orders, restocking supply carts, and ensuring efficient and accurate supply delivery across the hospital. The Storeroom Clerk supports the hospital’s daily operational needs through effective inventory control and customer service.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor and control inventory levels by performing spot checks and adjusting par levels as needed
  • Remove outdated or damaged sterile supplies in accordance with policy
  • Prepare and restock supply carts and department orders accurately and timely
  • Ensure supplies are properly labeled with correct charge and item numbers
  • Verify supply receipt and place items in designated storage locations
  • Assist other departments with supply needs in a cooperative and responsive manner
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the storeroom and work area
  • Support departmental quality and service improvement initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Materials Management

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Familiarity with supply chain or inventory systems (manual or automated)
  • Basic math and recordkeeping skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Dependability and flexibility to meet the needs of various departments
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and handling of supplies
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching
  • Regular lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds
  • Requires visual and auditory acuity for accurate labeling and communication
  • Works near moving mechanical parts and equipment
  • Occasional exposure to airborne particles and noise
  • Minimal exposure to hazardous materials or extreme temperatures

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Licenses/Certifications

  • None Required

Experience

  • Experience in storage and distribution of supplies preferred
  • Knowledge of medical/surgical supplies and equipment preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work in a stressful setting and take appropriate action
