Job Summary

Plans and administers professional nursing care to patients in the recovery room/post-anesthesia care unit.

Essential Functions

• Cares for surgical patients as they recover from anesthesia
• Monitors vital signs, such as heart or respiratory rate, blood pressure, or oxygen level
• Comforts patients as they wake; may be required to gently restrain patients
• Checks surgical site for excessive bleeding or swelling
• Monitors, documents, and communicates care given, patient's status and reactions to interventions
• Educates patients on care for the surgical wound or other post-discharge care
• Performs work under minimal supervision
• Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff

Education

• Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program

Licenses/Certifications

• Current state licensure as Registered Nurse in the state of practice
• BCLS certification required
• ACLS certification as required by facility of practice

Experience

• Minimum 1 year nursing experience
