Under the direction of the Leader of Imaging Services, the technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs all activities in an ethical and professional manner.

Essential job functions are the fundamental job duties of the employment position.

1. The Technologist selects and operates all radiology equipment as directed and provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
2. Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
3. Checks patient’s chart to confirm order and checks arm bands to confirm identity.
4. Moves X-ray equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
5. Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination.
6. Operates mobile X-ray equipment in Operating Room, Emergency Room, or at patient’s bedside.
7. Cleans all equipment before and after each patient use.  Portable equipment to be upon entering and leaving patient area.
8. CPR certification required.
9. Ability to determine use of slider board to move patients of all ages when needed; the use of heel and elbow protectors for geriatric patients as needed; use of table pads as needed and consideration of pathology such as emphysema, osteoporosis, etc. in techniques used.
10. Able to evaluate patient’s condition and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
11. Operate CR units in Radiology and be able to transfer images to PACS. Route images and burn CD’s as needed.
12. Check supplies in radiology rooms and notify supervisor of any needed supplies.

Associates or better in Radiology or related field
