Summary:

Performs painting duties as they relate to maintenance and repair of facilities upkeep, renovations and construction. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment, systems and structures throughout the facility. Works with the maintenance technicians on other duties assigned from work orders, verbal instructions and detailed specifications. Works in performance of duties and within the hospital safety program.

Essential Functions:
To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without 
reasonable accommodation. 
1. Apply paint to surfaces including canvases, walls, floors, doors and cabinets.
2. Mix, match and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel and other finishes.
3. Cleans walls to ensure proper adherence.
4. Scrape, sandpaper, prime or seal surfaces prior to painting.
5. Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.
6. Calculate the number of required materials and selects appropriate paint for the job.
7. Fill cracks, holes and joints with caulk, putty, plaster or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
8. Erect scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; move furniture and equipment as necessary.
9. Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, electric switch covers prior to painting.
10. Tape off areas where needed. Apply touchups or second coats.
11. Remove paint splatter when finished.
12. Cleans up all equipment, including brushes and spray guns.
13. Utilizes spray guns for large jobs.
14. Works on ladders to reach high ceiling or walls appropriately and safety.
15. Demonstrates knowledge of the job which enables them to perform procedures expeditiously.
16. Performs utility and structural repairs as needed, alone or in collaboration with internal/external tradesperson.
17. Inspects, tests, and maintains records for all fire risers, sprinklers, extinguishers, fire door and other fire/safety related equipment or systems.
18. Completes all work orders/requisitions assigned including labor and material used by each of each shift. Document completion timely.
19. Preventive maintenance will be completed in a timely accurate manner following procedures.
20. Moves items within/between locations and from/to storage.
21. Demonstrates enthusiasm in performing and accepting work assignments.
22. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

High School Graduate or equivalent, required. Vocational school or certification in mechanical equipment preferred.


Experience:

1-3 years’ experience in health care or similar maintenance is preferred. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing and to conduct self in a courteous and professional manner. Collaborates with other health care members to maintain a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
