Job Summary

  • The Echo/Vascular sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound and related testing on patients with suspected disorders of the cardiovascular system
  • These tests primarily include, but are not limited to, echocardiography, EKG, carotid duplex scanning, and noninvasive peripheral (arterial and venous) vascular studies

Essential Functions

As an echo/vascular sonographer, you will be expected to perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Review patient history and physician's orders
  • Educate patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation
  • Provide services to all patients understanding and adjusting to age, mental capacity, ethnicity, and religion in order to meet patient specific needs
  • Operate equipment to perform clinical diagnostic exams and routine invasive procedures according to established standards and practices
  • Monitor patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate
  • Prepare equipment and supplies
  • Implement safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and/or report equipment malfunctions as necessary
  • Position patient and performs scans procedures according to department protocols
  • Keep patients adequately covered for their comfort and modesty
  • Adhere to posted employee schedules which will include providing weekend coverage as per department policy
  • Optimizes image quality by repositioning patient, adjusting gain and display setting including. but not limited to, depth, dynamic range, focal zones, etc., in order to obtain diagnostic images
  • Review acquired data to ensure a completed and comprehensive evaluation has been performed. Any exceptions or limitations to written protocols are to be documented
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Licenses/Certification

  • Sonographers must be registered or registry eligible by the ARDMS as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) and Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or by CCI as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) and Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS)
  • Registry must be completed within one year of employment
  • Basic Life Support Certification required

Experience

  • 2+ years' experience is preferred
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
