Job Summary

Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments and patient care equipment, sterilizes surgical sets and trays, distributes and receives medical equipment and supplies.

Essential Functions

  • Provides inspection, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instruments and other patient care equipment in accordance with processing guidelines, AAMI, AORN, TJC, and OSHA requirements
  • Operates departmental equipment daily according to manufacturer instructions with emphasis on safety
  • Provides customer service to all departments with a focus on the patient need
  • Processes and documents all sterile supplies and equipment daily using chemical, biological and mechanical indicators to verify sterility in accordance with manufacturer instructions and hospital policy
  • Monitors and performs antimicrobial and disinfection solutions testing according to manufacturer instructions and documentation daily

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent, Required

Skills

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
