Job Summary

  • The Pharmacy Technician II supports the efficient operation of the pharmacy department by preparing and dispensing medications, managing inventory, and providing guidance to less experienced technicians
  • This role functions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and may include responsibilities for controlled substances, billing, and precepting new staff

Essential Functions

  • Refills and maintains automated dispensing systems
  • Prepares and fills medication orders, including controlled substances, under pharmacist supervision
  • Supports medication billing, charges, and inventory records
  • Prepares prepackaged and bulk medications with correct labeling
  • Oversees restocking and maintenance of pharmaceuticals in compliance with standards
  • Assists in training and competency assessments of new or junior technicians
  • Participates in quality assurance and process improvement activities
  • Responds to inventory and regulatory documentation requirements

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Effective communication and precepting skills
  • Competency in pharmacy technology and software systems
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in handling hazardous medications and adherence to safety protocols
  • Commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, and customer service excellence


Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) typically within 60 days of hire or 
  • Current enrollment in a PharmD program
  • Pharmacy Technician registration required per state law or facility policy

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a pharmacy technician or currently enrolled in a PharmD program
