Job Summary

  • Under the direction of an RN is responsible for patient safety, welfare, and the implementation of therapeutic milieu and treatment plans
  • Serve as a patient observer on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require any degree of observation in order to maximize patient safety
  • Perform general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficiency of the nursing unit

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct clinical care to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse or other licensed clinical personnel
  • Serves as a Nurse Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in behavioral health performing the duties expected of an incumbent
  • Observes and records patient behavior and activities. Reports any changes in physical, mental or emotional condition to nursing staff and suggests modifications to the treatment plan
  • Provides crisis intervention with incoming calls and on the unit to maintain safety
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and patient friendly work environment; ensure supplies are stocked and available.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field preferred

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred
  • Handle with Care Certification or CPI within 90 days of hire

Minimum Work Experience

  • One (1) year of mental health experience in Mental Health Technician or similar function is preferred.
  • Four (4) years of related experience in the mental health field preferred

Required Skills

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
