Job Summary

The Director of Diagnostic Imaging Services provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality imaging services. This includes oversight of radiology departments across modalities (e.g., CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography), physician collaboration, equipment management, regulatory compliance, and team development. The Director ensures alignment with hospital goals and supports continual improvement of clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees daily operations of all imaging modalities and locations, including hospital and outpatient sites
  • Plans and manages department budgets, staffing, scheduling, and capital equipment purchases
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements (e.g., TJC, CMS, DHEC, OSHA) and hospital policies
  • Develops, reviews, and implements protocols, procedures, and quality initiatives for clinical operations
  • Serves as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), ensures adherence to safety and environmental standards
  • Collaborates with radiologists, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to support diagnostic services
  • Supervises hiring, training, performance reviews, and professional development of staff
  • Conducts service line development, strategic planning, and equipment acquisitions
  • Monitors quality indicators, patient outcomes, and satisfaction metrics to drive performance improvement
  • Participates in system-wide initiatives and leadership meetings

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • In-depth knowledge of diagnostic imaging practices, modalities, and emerging technologies
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with ability to manage multi-site operations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with staff, physicians, and vendors
  • Ability to lead teams through change and foster a culture of excellence
  • Proficient with imaging systems, PACS, EMRs, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrates integrity, critical thinking, and initiative
  • Populations Served: Care provided to neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations
  • Frequent walking, standing, sitting, and keyboarding
  • Occasional lifting/pushing of imaging equipment and patient support devices up to 50 lbs
  • Exposure to radiation, biohazards, chemical agents, and mechanical equipment
  • Use of PPE and compliance with safety protocols is required
  • Hospital and outpatient clinic settings
  • May require occasional travel between facilities or for educational purposes

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited program in radiologic technology or related imaging field (Required).
  • Bachelor’s degree (Preferred).
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration or related field (Preferred).

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) (Required).
  • State-specific radiologic licensure/certification obtained within timeframe required by facility policy.  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required).

Experience

  • Five (5) years of clinical imaging experience (Required).
  • Three (3) years of imaging leadership/management experience (Required).
