Job Summary

  • The RN Coordinator/Specialist – Cath Lab is responsible for providing direct nursing care, clinical leadership, and operational coordination within the cardiac catheterization laboratory
  • This role supports interventional and angiographic procedures, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and ensures regulatory compliance and adherence to quality standards
  • The Coordinator serves as a liaison between staff and management and contributes to performance improvement and professional development activities within the department

Essential Functions

  • Performs and documents patient assessments, planning, interventions, and evaluations during Cath Lab procedures 
  • Monitors, communicates, and records patient condition throughout the procedure and recovery 
  • Administers medications, assists with moderate sedation, and performs clinical treatments per physician orders 
  • Ensures sterile technique, equipment preparation, and proper use of interventional tools (e.g., guidewires, catheters, sheaths) 
  • Collaborates with the care team on patient transfers, discharges, and interdisciplinary planning 
  • Supports device implantation, post-procedure monitoring, and pacemaker follow-up activities 
  • Ensures accurate procedural documentation and patient charging within the EMR and Cath Lab systems 
  • Assists in training new staff, maintaining competency evaluations, and promoting clinical excellence 
  • Participates in infection control, equipment sterilization processes, and quality assurance programs 
  • Serves as a resource for policy implementation, protocol development, and operational oversight 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations 

  • Proficient in hemodynamic monitoring, EMR systems, and Cath Lab imaging software 
  • Ability to organize, multitask, and lead in a fast-paced, procedure-driven environment 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills across clinical and administrative teams 
  • Adherence to infection control, patient safety, and quality improvement standards
  • Acts as an extension of the management team by promoting professionalism, accountability, and civility 
  • Assigns daily tasks and procedures with awareness of patient flow, acuity, and department capacity 
  • Collaborates with the department manager and nursing supervisor to ensure appropriate staffing and resource allocation 
  • Supports staff development and helps resolve performance or workflow concerns 

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree or higher in Nursing required 

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current RN license in the state or Compact State license 
  • BLS certification – required upon hire and maintained continuously 
  • ACLS certification – required within 6 months of hire and maintained continuously 

Experience 

  • Experience in Cath Lab or interventional radiology preferred 
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership and ability to work independently in high-stress environments 
  • Must possess critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
