Job Summary

The Radiologic Technologist / CT Technologist performs a full range of diagnostic imaging procedures, including general radiography and computed tomography (CT), in accordance with established scope of practice, physician orders, and regulatory standards. This role is responsible for patient preparation, positioning, image acquisition, and post-procedure documentation while maintaining radiation safety and quality standards. The position supports high-quality patient care in an acute care hospital environment and may function in either or both modalities based on department needs, training, and credentials.

Essential Functions

  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures in general radiography and computed tomography in accordance with established protocols and physician orders
  • Verify patient identity, review clinical history, and ensure exam appropriateness prior to imaging procedures
  • Prepare, position, and instruct patients to ensure safety, comfort, and optimal image quality
  • Operate radiographic and CT imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic images for physician interpretation
  • Prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice and under appropriate supervision
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and respond appropriately to emergent situations
  • Evaluate images for technical quality and take corrective action as needed, including repeat imaging when necessary
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) and imaging systems
  • Adhere to radiation safety principles, infection prevention standards, and departmental quality controls
  • Perform routine equipment quality assurance, troubleshooting, and report malfunctions as required
  • Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare team members to support patient care and workflow efficiency
  • Participate in ongoing education, competency validation, and cross-training as required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Knowledge of radiographic and CT imaging principles, anatomy, and positioning
  • Ability to operate imaging equipment and related software systems
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and image quality standards

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and transfer patients and equipment
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for equipment operation and image evaluation
  • Hospital imaging department and clinical care areas
  • Exposure to radiation, contrast agents, blood, and bodily fluids
  • Use of protective equipment and adherence to safety protocols required

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program required
  • Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R) required
  • ARRT certification in Computed Tomography (CT) required or must be obtained within a defined period following hire, as permitted by policy
  • State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist and/or CT Technologist as required by state law
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Experience

  • Prior experience in diagnostic imaging preferred
  • Hospital or acute care imaging experience preferred
  • New graduates eligible with commitment to cross-training and competency completion
