Job Summary

  • The Dialysis Nurse is a highly skilled healthcare professional that provides care to patients with chronic kidney disease
  • They oversee providing treatments such as dialysis, managing medications, and maintaining detailed records of patient's treatment along with their medical history
  • Dialysis Nurses are highly knowledgeable and experienced professionals that focus on their patient's safety and comfort while providing the highest quality of care
  • They possess superior communication skills and the ability to multi-task in fast-paced medical environments
  • The Dialysis Nurse is an invaluable part of the health care team

Essential Functions

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Demonstrate the ability to be self-directed and function independently in the dialysis setting
  • Demonstrates the competent skills to perform IHD and SLED treatments as per nephrologist orders and shall provide appropriate assessment, evaluation, ongoing monitoring and interventions per facility policies and procedures
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary communication in delivering patient care in a timely fashion
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication and education skills to patients ensuring understanding, comfort, safety, and privacy
  • Assist in preparing dialysis treatment areas with needed supplies prior to starting treatments and demonstrate knowledge of nursing procedures and nursing care as it relates to renal replacement therapy
  • Ensures dialysis machines and equipment are maintained in good working order per policy
  • Strictly adheres to all infection prevention practices and demonstrates best practice principles for dialysis vascular access care
  • Adheres to all policies, procedures, rules, and regulations as they pertain to the department and/or regulatory agencies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree or higher in nursing

License/Certification

  • Current State license or Compact State License (if lives outside of SC)
  • BLS-required upon hire and continuously thereafter
  • ACLS - required within 6 months of hire and continuously thereafter
  • Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) or Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) certification preferred

Experience

  • Experience working in a nephrology or dialysis setting
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
